God’s story of Creation is a wonderful, true, historic event which God detailed for us in the very first chapter of the very first book of the Bible.
A story wheel is a device that can help children remember the order of events in a narrative, so that they can retell the story to someone else. The act of listening to a story, then retelling–or narrating–that story helps kids:
- Pay attention to the story
- Comprehend what they’ve heard or read
- Think critically as they work to retell the story
- Develop the ability to sum up what they’ve read in their own words
With notebooking or journaling, kids learn to narrate in writing. A story wheel is a fun way to create a visual reminder of the sequence of events in a story so that kids can retell it.
When your 8-12 year olds work through their copy of the puzzle-based Bible study, Bible Investigators: Creation, they will spend an entire section–or unit–of the study learning about the story of God’s Creation event. Your kids will solve 90 brain-teasing puzzles, work through 40 Bible passages, and learn 30 amazing truths about God’s Creation.
This fun days of Creation wheel will allow your kids to create a visual reminder of Genesis chapter 1, so they can retell God’s story of his Creation of the universe and the earth and everything on it.
The 7 Days of Creation for Kids Wheel
Read Genesis chapter 1 as a family before you begin your craft.
As you make your craft, discuss:
- What day is Genesis 1:1 set in?
- Is “the beginning” a day or an expanse of time?
- Why is it important to remember that in the beginning, “the earth was without form and void” (Genesis 1:2a)?
- What do you learn in Genesis chapter 1 about the order of God’s Creation?
- Why do you think he creates the world and the universe the way he does?
Let your kids use their Days of Creation story wheel to retell the story of Genesis chapter 1. If they’ve worked on Section Two of the puzzle-based Bible study, Bible Investigators: Creation, they may be able to tell their story using God’s words–straight from the Bible!

Supplies Needed to Make Your 7 Days of Creation Wheel
- Your printable templates and instructions
- Colored Cardstock
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue Stick
- Black Permanent Marker
- Brad
Creating the 7 Days of Creation for Kids Wheel
1) Print Your Templates.
2) Create Your Story Wheel and Cover.
Then, cut out the circle without slices. This will be your story wheel cover. Trace the large slice from the Days 0 & 1 Template onto the plain circle. Cut out the slice, as shown above. Set the story wheel cover aside until the last step.
3) Create Your “In the Beginning” & Day 1 Slices.
Trace and cut out your “In the Beginning” slice from black cardstock. Talk about the how Genesis 1:1-2 tells us that God made everything out of nothing! Glue “Day 0” to your story wheel in one of the slice spaces.
Trace the half slice pieces from your first day template, one onto a piece of yellow cardstock, and the other onto a piece of black cardstock, to represent Day and Night. Glue the black and yellow pieces onto the slice next to the Day 0 black slice, as shown.
4) Create Your Day 2 Slice.
Glue the Day 2 slice next to the Day 1 slice. Glue the ocean wave at the bottom and the clouds on the top.
5) Create Your Day 3 Slice.
Glue the tree leaves to the trunk, and the flower to the stem. Glue the land to the top of the slice, then glue the water and bush over the top as shown.
Glue the tree and cloud onto the Day 3 slice, trimming the edges as necessary. Glue the slice next to Day 2.
6) Create Your Day 4 Slice.
Glue the yellow circle inside the sun. Glue the planet inside the rings.
Glue the planet, stars, moon, and sun on the next slice.
7) Create Your Day 5 Slice.
Glue the ocean waves along the bottom of the Day 5 slice. Glue the shark fin, fish, and dolphin in the ocean. Glue the butterfly, bee, and bird in the sky. Use a black permanent marker to draw faces and details on each creature.
8) Create Your Day 6 Slice.
Glue each child together, and glue the sheep together, as shown. Use a permanent marker to draw faces on each child and creature. Glue them onto the Day 6 slice, trimming each item as necessary.
9) Put the Wheel Cover on Top.
Use a brad to attach the wheel cover to story wheel as shown.
10) Have Your Kids Retell the Creation Story with the Days of Creation Wheel.
Have your children use their Days of Creation wheel to retell the story of our amazing God’s Creation of the world and the universe!
