Jesus’ lost sheep parable, Luke 15:1-7, explains the value of saved sinners. Kids will copy Luke 15:7 in this parable of the lost sheep craft.

Jesus told the Pharisees and scribes that, just as we would search for one sheep–leaving behind 99–and just as we would rejoice in finding that lost sheep, there is also much joy in heaven over one soul who repents.
This fun sheep handprint craft and copywork will help your kids think about Jesus’ love for his people.
Parable of the Lost Sheep
Read Luke 15:1-7 as a family before you begin your craft. In the ESV, our focus verse, Luke 15:7, says:
“Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”
As you make your craft, discuss:
- Why were the Pharisees and scribes upset about Jesus eating with sinners?
- Imagine your friend or sibling was missing during a playdate. Would looking for them be the right thing to do? How would you feel when you found them?
- How does Jesus describe the joy of the man who finds his lost sheep?
- In verse 7, what does Jesus tell us occurs in heaven when one sinner repents and follows Jesus?
Talk about repentance and what it means to ask God to forgive our sins.

Creating Your Lost Sheep Craft for Kids
1) Print your template and copywork cards.
Print your template and copywork cards on white cardstock and cut them out.
Trace the templates onto colored cardstock, as shown, and cut the pieces out. You can trace your child’s hand, or you can use the template if you’d rather.
2) Create your sheep.
Glue the wool onto the sheep’s head.
Glue the googly eyes to the sheep’s face.
Glue the cheeks on either side of the lower face and use a permanent marker to draw a nose and mouth, as shown.
Glue the wool body to the palm of the hand.
Last, glue the sheep’s head to the thumb and upper body, as shown.
3) Finish your parable of the lost sheep craft.
Choose the copywork card with the correct line width for your child. Have them copy Luke 15:7 (or Luke 15:7b for your younger children) onto the card.
Glue your child’s sheep into the square on the copywork card, with the main part of the body off the side of the card.
Display your child’s craft somewhere they will see it often, and work on memorizing Luke 15:7.
