The earth is a wonderful home for us. We have seasons, daylight, tides, and cool night air to sleep with. Our world has a rhythm and an order to it. When God created the earth, he also created the sun and moon, which greatly impact everything about our planet. In short, God made us a home, here on this earth.
When your 8-12 year olds work through their copy of the puzzle-based Bible study, Bible Investigators: Creation, they will study this reality in the very first unit.
Kids can work on this simple felt sewing craft while they contemplate God’s creation of an earth that was made to be inhabited.
God Created the Sun, Moon, and Earth
As a family, read Isaiah 45:18 before you begin your craft. In the ESV it says:
For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited!): “I am the Lord, and there is no other.”
This is one of the verses your 8-12 year olds will study in the puzzle-based Bible study, Bible Investigators: Creation!
As you make your craft, discuss:
- Who is the only one who could have created the heavens?
- When God made the earth, what was his purpose?
- God created the sun, moon, and earth to work together to create a good home for his creatures. List a few ways the sun and the moon make our world a good place to live.
God showed his care for us through the wonderful home he created for his people and animals!

Creating Your God Created the World Craft
1) Print Your Templates.
2) Create Your Earth.
Stitch the green felt onto one of the blue world felt pieces, as shown.
Line up the two round world pieces so the edges match. Carefully stitch along the edge of the world so both pieces are stitched together and the continent side is facing up. Stop before the world pieces are completely stitched together, creating a pocket.
Stuff the felt earth with cotton.
Continue stitching the edges of the earth together until you’ve created a small pillow. Create a knot with the thread to secure the stiches and cut the thread.
3) Create Your Sun.
Stitch around the edge of the yellow sun to attach it to the flames. Stop before the sun and flames are completely stitched together, creating a pocket.
Stuff the felt sun with cotton. Continue stitching the edges together until you’ve created a small pillow. Create a knot with the thread to secure the stiches and cut the thread.
4) Create Your Moon.
Trace your two round templates for the moon onto white felt. Trace the dots onto gray felt. Cut out all the pieces. Repeat the same steps you used for the earth to create the moon, stuffing it with cotton before sewing it closed.
5) Display Your Sun, Moon, and Earth.
Put your sun, moon, and earth somewhere your child can see them while they work through their Bible Investigators: Creation puzzle-based Bible study!
