1 Corinthians 13 (specifically 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a) is such an iconic and important passage on love that even non-Christians are often familiar with it.
It’s important that our kids know what biblical love is. After all, it’s easy to absorb the culture’s view of love, to believe that love is a warm, fuzzy feeling. That’s not what the Bible says about love.
You can make a Valentine wreath craft with your kids, do a short Bible lesson, and work on memorizing 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a in the ESV or KJV as a family, all in one quick project!
1 Corinthians 13 Love Is Bible Verse
1 Corinthians 13, often called the love chapter, is an important text about what it means to truly love others. Consider reading and discussing the entire chapter (just 13 short verses) as a family. Tips for Art Projects with Kids
Doing art projects with kids can be a challenge. For that reason, many parents forgo this valuable time altogether. As an art major and a parent who has done frequent art projects with my four children, I have a few suggestions for you.
- Cover your space. Use painting drop cloths and plastic to keep your furniture and flooring protected.
- Cover your kids. Grab a couple of your old T-shirts and throw them over your kids, buy them painting aprons, or designate clothes specifically for crafting.
- Do the prep work in advance. Do as much prep work for a project as you can before you get the kids involved. Not everything on the page needs to be their work. It’s OK to help.
- Schedule several short sessions for one project. Children need several days to be able to create larger projects. Art is time-consuming and requires energy.
- Encourage your kids. Children are likely to be frustrated by the disconnect in the artwork they envision and the art they actually create. Remind your kids that they improve every time they create, and tell them how much you love their work (even if you don’t know what it is!). Also, stick figures are fabulous.
- Operate the hot glue gun. Hot glue burns are terrible. Until your kids are old enough to cook, I’d advise you do the hot gluing.

Make a Valentine Wreath Craft for Kids
Here are the steps for the Valentine wreath craft for your kids. Your children can help with most of these steps, and you can step in and help whenever necessary.
Grab your craft instructions and template in the Thinking Kids Press store.
1) Make a Valentine Wreath.
Cut long strips of burlap fabric, then wrap your Valentine wreath base to cover it. Glue the beginning of each burlap strip to the cardstock ring, then glue the end of each strip before gluing a new strip to your Valentine wreath.
2) Cut Out Your Valentine Wreath Craft Bees, Butterflies, and Love Is Bible Verse.
Print the Valentine wreath craft template for your kids.
Cut out the template pieces. Trace the bug template pieces on colored cardstock. Cut out the traced patterns. Cut out the 1 Corinthians 13 Love Is Bible verse frame in ESV or KJV.

The scene on your wreath is simple:
- 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a in either ESV or KJV
- Two Bees
- Two Butterflies
3) Make Two Bees for Your Valentine Wreath.
Cut another small heart for each bee to be used on the body.
Glue a tiny heart to the end of each antenna.
Trim the stripes along each bee body, then glue the heart antennas under the top side of the body. The little hearts should be at the top, as shown.
Glue the heart-shaped wings under each side of the body. Repeat for your second bee.
Use a permanent marker to draw a simple face on each bee as shown. You can glue your remaining small heart onto the bee body as shown in the final Valentine wreath image.
4) Make Two Butterflies for Your Valentine Wreath.
Glue a tiny heart to the end of each antenna.
Glue a heart wing under each side of the each butterfly body.
Glue two googly eyes onto each butterfly body, then use a permanent marker to draw a smile on each butterfly.
5) Finish Your Valentine Wreath Craft.
To finish your Valentine wreath, glue your Love Is Bible verse frame on the side of your wreath. Glue both bees and both butterflies onto the Valentine wreath.
