Often, we can make minor adjustments to the things we’re already doing in our homes that will focus our kids on the great story of God’s salvation for us.
For instance, coloring books are a staple in most homes. What if your family’s coloring books focused on the stories, themes, and heroes from the Bible? That’s one small change you can make that will help your kids think about God’s Word to them!
When my kids were younger, we used coloring books for a number of years during our read aloud times. Coloring is an effective way to allow children to satisfy their need to move while still allowing them to listen.
Bible Coloring Books for Kids
Christian Focus Publications has three great lines of small (6″ x 8.5″) 16-page themed coloring books your kids, ages 4-8, will love.
Carine Mackenzie, the author of each coloring book works to tie the gospel into the story of the individual featured in the Bible Heroes line. For example, the gospel message from the last page of the Moses coloring book says:
God kept his promise. He always does. He promises eternal life to those who trust his Son, Jesus, to save them from their sin.
The book on Adam states:
Sin came through Adam, but forgiveness and eternal life would come through God’s Son, Jesus Christ.
I love that!
Every page has line picture to color, drawn by illustrator Fred Apps with bubble lettering–you know how important bubble lettering is for an excited coloring kiddo!–summarizing each person, story, or theme.
I’d recommend using colored pencils with the books as the drawings are detailed enough for an eight-year-old. Colored pencils will allow kids to get the result they desire as the tips are finer than crayons.
The following coloring books are another godly resource from Christian Focus.

Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible
Looking for a family discipleship book that will give you a crash course in leading your kids through God’s Word? I’ve got you covered.
You want your kids to learn and love the Bible.
You want to teach the Bible…
As parents, we deeply desire the best for our kids. We look for the right schools, we make them eat right and exercise, and we get them involved in extracurricular activities. We take our job as parents seriously.
But are we also putting our time and energy into
teaching them the Bible? Giving them the life-changing, soul-nourishing words of Scripture is not only doable, it’s an essential part of parenting kids for Jesus. And the good news is, studying God’s Word as a family doesn’t have to be difficult!
2 Timothy 2:15, ESV, says:
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved,
a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Our job, as parents who love Jesus, is to help our kids become approved workers, unashamed and rightly handling the word of truth.
The good news? Teaching the Bible isn’t hard. Your family can learn the Bible together.
…and you can!
