When we make the choice to follow Christ, we begin the lifelong journey to be sanctified. That means that the Holy Spirit works in our hearts and lives to make us more like Jesus.
We teach our children about godly character and wise, godly living even before they are called to salvation in Christ. Scripture teaches us all about godly living. Sometimes, God even gives us great metaphors… like the ant.
This fun ant craft is a great way to remind kids that the labor God has given us to do is important… and we should do it carefully and with joy!
Proverbs 6:6-8 | Go to the Ant
The book of Proverbs is a wonderful book of wisdom that addresses how we are to live as we follow God.
For instance, like the little ant that God created, Christians should do their work with diligence, initiative, and careful planning. If we don’t, we may be surprised to find ourselves in need.
Consider Proverbs 6:6-8. In the ESV it says:
Go to the ant, O sluggard;
consider her ways, and be wise.
Without having any chief,
officer, or ruler,
she prepares her bread in summer
and gathers her food in harvest.
Read Proverbs 6:6-8 as a family before you begin your craft.
As you make your craft, discuss:
- What does the word sluggard mean? You can look it up if you need to.
- How can sluggards–and wise children–learn from the ant that God created?
- The ant works hard in the summertime to prepare for winter.
- What regular tasks has God given you that you can perform diligently and with joy?
Be sure to hang your ant craft somewhere you will see it often!

Supplies Needed to Make Your Proverbs Ant Craft
You’ll just need a few things to complete your craft!
- Templates
- Colored Cardstock
- White Cardstock
- Googly Eyes
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue Stick
- Permanent Markers
Creating the Go to the Ant Craft
1) Print Your Templates.
2) Create Your Ant.
Glue the head (the largest circle) on top of the smallest circle (the thorax), as shown.
Glue two short legs to the abdomen (the irregularly shaped piece).
Use a permanent marker to draw lines on the back piece.
Glue the two antennae behind the top of the head, as shown.
Glue googly eyes and two pink cheeks on the face. Use the permanent marker to add a mouth.
Glue the abdomen behind the thorax (small circle) to complete the ant’s body.
Glue two more short legs behind the thorax (small circle).
Glue the two long, curved legs to the middle of the thorax. One will be behind and the other in front, with both facing up. Then, glue a leaf, cherry, peanut, or berry between the ant’s two curved legs.
3) Complete Your Go to the Ant Craft.
Hang your kids’ ant craft in their room where they can see it as a reminder to work diligently and wisely for the Lord!
