Do you ever wish you had an engaging resource to take your middle grade kids through the life of Jesus? Do you want a way to show your kids how the Old Testament testifies to the coming of the Messiah–our Savior, and a great way to show kids how Jesus fulfilled the prophecies about him?
David Luckman has written another set of books your family is going to love!

The Life of Jesus in the Gospels for Kids
In two 76-page hardcover volumes, David Luckman has written a chronological, retold account of the Gospels for kids. Volume 1 of Adventures in the Gospels (Christian Focus Publications, 2025) covers the first half of the life of Jesus, while Volume 2 covers the second half of the life of Jesus. The books are aimed at your older kids, ages 7-12.
Each story is retold in two or three pages. Kids will see a title and a reference to the Scripture passages included. Because each story is often included in multiple Gospel accounts, your kids will get to see where the story is told in each Gospel.
The stories are retold in engaging narrative, with new vocabulary words your child may want to look up in bold.
The gold for these books is really at the end of each story. Four sections help kids dive deeper into the life of Jesus:
- “What’s the Point” allows kids to read commentary explaining how each story fits into the broader narrative of who Jesus is and how he works in our lives.
 - “Look Back” directs kids to read a relevant passage from the Old Testament. David Luckman explains what we learn from the passage and how it relates to the story in the Gospels.
 - “Check This Out” or “Look Forward” has children read another passage or two. Luckman offers commentary and critical thinking questions on application of God’s Word, about how the life of Jesus and his teachings connect to teach the New Testament, or on how Jesus fulfills the prophecies in the Old Testament about the coming Messiah.
 - “Think” asks children to consider what they’ve learned.

I love (love, love) the illustrations by Silvana Di Marcello. The pictures and maps are perfect for 8-12 year olds. They don’t overpower the page, and have a modern feel for them, as they are often just a figure or two alongside the text on the white background of the page. Christian Focus Publications does not use illustrations of Jesus in observance of the Second Commandment.
David Luckman has put together another wonderful two-volume journey through God’s Word! Adventures in the Gospels leads middle grade students through the life and teachings of Jesus, connecting our Savior’s work in the Gospels to Scripture in the Old Testament before helping children apply the Bible to their own lives.
Your 8-12 year olds will love this puzzle-based Bible study on the doctrine of Creation!
