Teach kids about the story of Mary at Christmas and her journey to the Cross with the Nativity story book from Carine Mackenzie.

Yet, Mary was an ordinary woman, used by God in one of the most extraordinary events in human history. We do our kids a disservice when we forget to tell the Christmas story from Mary’s perspective.
Your family will love this biblically faithful picture book that shares the story of Mary at Christmas.

Mary at Christmas
Carine MacKenzie’s picture book, Mary’s Christmas Journey: A Nativity Story (CF4Kids, 2025), is a lovely storybook for young children.
The book tells the story of Mary’s journey with Jesus, beginning at the very beginning–God’s creation of a perfect, sinless world, and the beginning of sin, followed by God’s plan for salvation through Jesus.
We then follow the story of Mary starting when the angel announces God will give her a baby boy. We see her visit Elizabeth, then learn about the entire story of Jesus’ birth through Mary’s point of view.
The book ends by explaining that Jesus was born for a reason. Your children will learn about Jesus’ ministry and his death on the Cross. Kids learn about Mary’s grief when he dies, and her salvation through Jesus, our Savior.
Jesus has risen from the dead, and one day he:
will return to this earth, not as a baby, but as a victorious king.”
I love that the book ends with the message of the gospel, which was good news for Mary, too. After all, she was a sinner, just as every human is. Jesus came to save those who believe in him and repent of their sins.
The pastel illustrations by Daniele Fabbri are beautiful and colorful. Christian Focus does not show pictures of Jesus, in case that’s a second commandment concern for you.
