Who was Moses in the Bible? Your family will love the fun text and illustrations in this Moses Bible biography. Perfect for kids ages 7-12!

The evangelist D.L. Moody (1837-1899) once said:
Moses spent 40 years thinking he was somebody; 40 years learning he was nobody, and 40 discovering what God can do with a nobody.
Interestingly, Moses’ life was divided into three periods, each 40 years long. First, Moses was royalty in what was–at the time–the most powerful nation on earth where God preserved his life and caused him to become highly educated. Then, Moses was a shepherd in the wilderness where God humbled him. Last, God called Moses to be his prophet and the leader of God’s people, the Israelites. Throughout Moses’ life, God’s role is evident in the story of his chosen prophet.
Who Was Moses?
It was into this nation-within-a nation that a baby was born. This wasn’t just any baby, and he didn’t grow up to be just any boy. No, this baby was born into the tribe of Levi–one of the sons of Jacob, which would become the tribe of God’s priests. One day, this special child named Moses would know God face-to-face.

Moses was God’s prophet, the leader of the Israelites, and the author of the first five books of the Bible (along with Psalm 90).
It is through God’s inspiration and Moses’ writings that we have the books of the Law, also called the Pentateuch. Moses led God’s people through the Exodus out of Egypt, and he brought them to the edge of the Promised Land. Scripture tells us that Moses was more meek, or humble, than any man on earth (Numbers 12:3). And, Moses knew God face-to-face. He is a man your children will want to know!
Who Was Moses in the Bible?
Moses is the man at the forefront of many of the Bible’s best-known stories. He is also referenced throughout Scripture.
Take a look at the impact Moses had throughout biblical history. Moses:
- Was providentially rescued by God, after the Pharaoh of Egypt ordered the killing of all Israelite baby boys.
- Attempted to lead his people in the wrong way–without God. Instead, he spent 40 years in the desert as a shepherd.
- Encountered God in the burning bush.
- Confronted Pharaoh repeatedly as God’s prophet.
- Led the Israelites through the Passover, the Exodus, the parting of the Red Sea, the building of the tabernacle, and 40 years of wandering in the wilderness.
- Spoke to God face-to-face, then wrote everything down so that we, too, can know God!
Moses was God’s chosen prophet. He gave us the Law, the Pentateuch, and led God’s people through the plagues, the Passover, and the Exodus from Egypt. Your kids will love learning his life story in one exciting narrative!

Now, in the land of Egypt, there were grand palaces with giant statues of pharaohs who ruled before. Towering pyramids held elaborate mazes leading to kingly burial chambers. Egypt was a place of learning where people wrote in pictures, called hieroglyphs, that stood for letters, sounds, or sometimes words. Dentists and doctors put fillings in teeth, set broken bones, diagnosed cancer, and even performed basic brain surgery.
The land was also a place of false worship, where the people followed fake gods they thought looked like bulls, cows, frogs, and even the sun. In fact, each pharaoh believed he was the god of the sun, born into human flesh. Many of the people of Israel also followed the idols of Egypt. This is something the true God, Yahweh, hates–the worship of creatures, statues, and people.

Christian Biographies for Kids | Christian History for Kids | Theology for Kids
Christian History Matters for Our Kids.
History matters. Now, more than ever, we see how important it is for our children to know and understand history and the Bible.
Here’s why:
- God is the sovereign ruler of all things. It’s important for our kids to see his hand in the history of nations and in the lives of both peasants and kings.
- Christian history is the story of our family history. Our kids get to see how people who love Jesus follow him.
- Understanding history can help our kids learn historic and biblical theology. They learn what the Bible says and what that means for us. They also see when the study of Scripture has taken important turns that have changed the Church.
- Reading Christian biographies and history can be a wonderful way for kids to think outside their own time and culture. God’s Church spans centuries and includes people from every nation.
- Christian biographies help kids consider their own faith, walk with Jesus, and the impact their witness may one day have on others–and on history.
