Exodus Bible Study
Have you ever considered the fact that God’s Word is a story? It’s true.
Consider the story of the Exodus, which the Holy Spirit wrote through Moses. It’s the story of God’s people, freed from slavery and led to freedom. While God is leading his people to freedom, he is busy teaching them who he is, why they need a Savior, and how to worship him.
Our kids can learn about theology through the story of God’s Word, too. In fact, I wrote Why Did the Exodus Happen? so kids, ages 7-12, would learn the story of the Exodus. And, they’ll learn nine important truths about God, too!

9 Lessons about God from the Exodus Bible Story for Kids
There are nine specific lessons your kids can learn about God from the Exodus Bible story:
- God is faithful.
- One of the amazing things about the Exodus is that we learn that God keeps his promises. In fact, in Genesis, chapter 15, God promised Abraham:
- That his offspring would be more numerous than the stars.
- That his offspring—his heirs—would be sojourners in a land that wasn’t theirs.
- That they would be afflicted for 400 years.
- That God would judge that nation for sinning against Abraham’s offspring.
- Then, God promised to bring the people out of the land of their oppression with great riches.
- That he would give the people the land of Canaan.
- That is exactly what God did, 430 years after his people entered the land of Egypt in order to survive a terrible famine. God put his people in a safe place so that they could grow into a mighty nation. Then, he led them to a land of their own.
- One of the amazing things about the Exodus is that we learn that God keeps his promises. In fact, in Genesis, chapter 15, God promised Abraham:
- God is known to us.
- God told Pharaoh the Exodus happened “so that you may know there is none like me in all the earth (Exodus 9:14).”
- God also said that the Exodus happened “that you may know that I am the Lord (Exodus 8:22, 10:2).”
- God gave us his Word so that we can know him better. We also learn why we need a Savior, and about God’s great plan for salvation.
- God is sovereign.
- God is the King of everything. He controls hearts, events, time, nation, and rulers. God is even in charge of death.
- The ten plagues, which were miraculous events, showcased God’s sovereignty for the Israelites, for the Egyptians, and for us today. God:
- Turned all the water—including the Nile—to blood.
- Sent frogs everywhere.
- Sent clouds of gnats throughout Egypt and Goshen, where the Israelites lived.
- Sent flies to Egypt, but not to Goshen.
- Killed the livestock of the Egyptians.
- Sent boils on people and animals of Egypt.
- Sent massive hail, thunder, and fire to Egypt.
- Sent swarms of locust to eat the vegetation.
- Sent darkness over the land of Egypt for three days.
- God is God of everything. He is in charge of the weather, the animals, even the sun.
- God is our Savior.
- God told Pharaoh he was going to kill all the firstborn sons in Egypt. But, he had the Israelites sacrifice a perfect lamb and paint its blood on the doorposts and the top of the door frame, before they had a specific feast. The blood of the lamb saved them from the destroyer who passed over the homes throughout Egypt.
- When we sin, the wages—the debt we owe—is death. Jesus paid that debt for us and gave us—believers—his righteousness. Jesus is our Savior. There is no more precious gift.
- God is with us.
- God is all-powerful.
- God is our provider.
- God is victorious.
- God is holy.
Each chapter of Why Did the Exodus Happen? covers and attribute of God, along with more of the story of the Exodus. Our kids need to understand that we serve a God who is loving, righteous, and in control. He is good, and we can trust him with everything. What a relief that is!

Christian Biographies for Kids | Christian History for Kids | Theology for Kids
Christian History Matters for Our Kids.
History matters. Now, more than ever, we see how important it is for our children to know and understand history and the Bible.
Here’s why:
- God is the sovereign ruler of all things. It’s important for our kids to see his hand in the history of nations and in the lives of both peasants and kings.
- Christian history is the story of our family history. Our kids get to see how people who love Jesus follow him.
- Understanding history can help our kids learn historic and biblical theology. They learn what the Bible says and what that means for us. They also see when the study of Scripture has taken important turns that have changed the Church.
- Reading Christian biographies and history can be a wonderful way for kids to think outside their own time and culture. God’s Church spans centuries and includes people from every nation.
- Christian biographies help kids consider their own faith, walk with Jesus, and the impact their witness may one day have on others–and on history.
