I know I do. I want them to know and understand the story of God’s great plan for salvation. My kids need to know who God is, who they are, why we need a Savior, and how God wants us to follow him.
The Bible is a story, and it’s the perfect place to learn everything we need to know about what God has to say to us.
That said, it’s helpful if we provide a framework for our kids so they can understand the Christian faith. We want to start laying the groundwork of systematic theology–what the Bible as a whole has to say about specific subjects–for our kids.
That sounds complicated, but it’s really not. There are great tools available to help!
What is the Christian Faith?
Our kids need to know the gospel. The must understand how they come to salvation in Jesus, and why they need a Savior.
Our children also need to know who God is, who we are in God’s perspective, and how God wants his followers to live. These are important details about the Christian faith that it’s our job to teach our kids.
I want to thank Christian Focus Publications for sending me a copy of The Big Book of Questions and Answers, and one to give away. This review is my own and is not sponsored.
Family Devotions on the Basics of the Christian Faith
Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson has put together a 100-page family devotional book that will help your kids understand the basics of the Christian faith in a fun way. You can go through the each of the 77 family devotions in just a few minutes a day.
Each family devotion includes:
- A question and answer on the Christian faith
- Each answer has a short answer that can easily be memorized, and a longer answer to add context and explanation.
- A memory verse
- The verses are in NIV, but you can easily look them up in another version if you like.
- A short prayer
- A brief Bible passage to read together
- Discussion questions
- An activity to help kids remember what they’ve learned
Sinclair B. Ferguson
Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson is a teaching fellow at Ligonier Ministries. He teaches Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary, and was pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina.
I think it’s pretty neat that our kids can learn about systematic theology from someone as well respected as Systematic Theology professor Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson!

My husband and I are “conservative Christians” as my daughter calls us, so I am excited about the what is christian faith family devotion because it sounds exactly like what we believe! The Bible says to talk to your children when you are walking, laying down to sleep at night, anytime you are with them, about what God has done in your lives–and He has done a lot for us so we are constantly talking about it!
Leela says
It would be nice for my family.

This looks like a great book! It’s important to me that my kids learn theology from an early age but it’s not always easy to find good resources to help me do that.

I would like to be more purposeful about teaching my children God’s truths. We do pretty good about trying to use teaching moments, and some of our curriculum ties back to the Bible, but we haven’t been actively teaching theology to our children very much and our prayer life is lacking.
Pavel Miron says
