I’d like to thank Christian Focus 4 Kids for sending me The Bible is God’s Word: The Evidence in return for my honest review, and also for providing a book to give away! (The giveaway is over.)
Kids are smart. In fact, I believe they’re much smarter than we give them credit for being. Can middle grade students (ages 8-12) understand the doctrine of the Bible? Of course they can! I’ve been working on the doctrine of the Bible with my boys all year, using various adult resources. They notebooked their way through and we had some good discussions, but I certainly found myself wishing for more resources they could read themselves, without my assistance. When I discovered that Catherine Mackenzie was writing a new middle grade book on the Bible, I was thrilled.
The Bible is God’s Word is written in the voice of “the Librarian” (see the picture above) directly to the reader. The text is entirely readable, with divisions and subdivisions of the material as well as little sidebars containing facts and evidence. Throughout the book, the Librarian addresses questions (ostensibly from kids) about the Bible. There are pictures of the Librarian throughout the book.
The Bible is an important subject for kids—and The Bible is God’s Word is an approachable and engaging volume on that subject! I’m really excited about this book.
Catherine Mackenzie has another volume in the same vein as this one called Jesus Rose from the Dead: The Evidence. I’ve included purchase information for both below, as they look like a great set.
Be sure to enter to win a copy of The Bible is God’s Word below! The giveaway closes on April 17, 2015 at 10am PST.
