I want to thank Christian Focus Publications for providing a copies of Girls Just Like You and Boys Just Like Me in return for my honest opinion.
The Bible is full of “hero stories”. A hero story in literature is a story focused on one primary person. That person teaches a moral or makes a point. The heroes in the Bible aren’t necessarily “heroes” the way we typically think of a hero. King David sinned gravely through adultery, murder, and neglecting his duty as a father to correct his children. Rahab was a prostitute. Both David and Rahab, however, repented of their sin and served the Lord.
We learn from the stories of David and Rahab because we can relate to their humanity, their emotions, and ultimately their stories. We can see that the Lord forgives even the gravest of sins when we repent and follow Jesus.

Bible Devotions for Kids
Jean Stapleton, author of the excellent God’s Special Tent: The Story of the Tabernacle and What Came After activity book (see a detailed review and the tabernacles we built here), has written two books of Bible devotions for kids: Girls Just Like You: Bible Women Who Trusted God (Christian Focus 4 Kids, 2017), and Boys Just Like Me: Bible Men Who Trusted God (Christian Focus 4 Kids, 2017). These daily devotions for kids each include the 5o devotionals based on heroes of the Bible.

Daily Devotions for Kids
Each small devotional for kids has a 2 page spread for each daily devotion. The books are pocket-sized with padded covers, an attached ribbon bookmark, colorful pages, with black and white illustrations periodically throughout each book.
Each devotion begins with a short passage or verse to look up and read from the Bible.
There is a short, retold story from the Bible. Some of these stories include contextual information from elsewhere in the Bible or from cultural research. I think that it’s nice that Jean Stapleton included those details in the narrative. It makes each story relatable and understandable for young children. The narrative is nice–it’s warm and engaging.
At the end of each devotion there’s a “Think and Pray” section.
Boys Just Like Me includes the stories of Bible heroes such as: Jacob, Moses, Gideon, Jehoiada, Nehemiah, Peter, Stephen, and John Mark. Girls Just Like You has daily devotions based on Bible heroes like: Sarai, Ruth, Naaman’s servant girl, Jehosheba, Esther, Anna, Mary, and Lydia.

Both of the “Just Like You” Bible devotions for kids provide nice daily devotions for young children. They’re perfect for bedtime or family worship, and they are very attractive books as well. They would make very nice gifts.
I like the fact that the Just Like You devotionals give children an opportunity to consider the lives and actions of Bible heroes, and to really think and pray about how they approach their own relationships with God. It’s nice that the books are sectioned into gender so kids can really identify with the heroes discussed.

Looks like a great resource!
Thank you for this giveaway opportunity. My kids would like these!
I love that there is a “think and pray” section, these look great!
I need to find a way to introduce personal bible time with the children. We have a 9 year-old son and 2 daughters, 13 and 11 who would all enjoy this, so if I don’t have the opportunity to win one then I might need to buy them for Christmas. Thank you
I love that it encourages children to see the people described in Scripture as regular people that did great things because they obeyed a great God.
Thanks for the resources!
I think it is so important to introduce role models to children. So many of the role models of my childhood are being torn down and it is nice to find people within the Scriptures for my children. Plus we can never have too many books. 🙂
This is great! Thank you for sharing these.
