Teach Kids They are Created for God’s Glory

Kids sometimes ask, “Why did God create me?” It’s important to teach kids they are created for God’s glory!

Have your kids ever asked you, “Why did God create me?” Or, a question you are more likely to hear, “Why did God create me this way?”

Just like we adults struggle with insecurities, our kids often struggle with them as well.

Why Did God Create Me?

While we never want to encourage our children to remain in their sins, we do want to point them to the truth of God’s Word. The Bible tells us that each one of us was created in the image of God. We were each made on purpose, for a purpose. Though there is suffering due to the Fall, there are no mistakes in God’s world.

Bible Investigators: Creation is a puzzle-based Bible study for 8-12 year olds that will take them through the doctrine of Creation in six units. Section Three addresses “God Made Me.”

Bible Investigators

Created for God’s Glory

Our children were created specifically for God’s glory. What a joy to know that God has given us life, and he has given us a purpose as well. There are three things your kids need to understand, specifically about how and why God created them.

We want our kids to be able to say:

1) God gave me life.

The Spirit of God has made me,
    and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Job 33:4, ESV

Our kids need to understand the Trinity. The Holy Spirit is a Person of the one, true God. He breathed life into us. How amazing is that?

Not only that, the Holy Spirit has a number of titles in Scripture. Just take a look at Job 33:4! His titles in just that one verse are Spirit of God and the Breath of the Almighty. In Section Three of Bible Investigators: Creation, your kids will explore the various titles given to the Holy Spirit, and learn all about the Trinity. They will also study Job 33:4.

2) God formed me wonderfully.

For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
    my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
    the days that were formed for me,
    when as yet there was none of them. – Psalm 139:13-16, ESV

Isn’t this passage from Psalm 139 beautiful? Your kids will learn about genres in the Bible, discover which genre the psalms are, and uncover what some of the poetic language in Psalm 139 means. Then, they will compare this passage to two in the books of Jeremiah and Ephesians. They’ll even learn a little bit about Leonardo da Vinci.

3) God gives everyone life and breath.

The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for

“‘In him we live and move and have our being’;

as even some of your own poets have said,

“‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ – Acts 17:24-28, ESV

What an amazing truth it is that in God we live, move, and have our being. Further, God gave all mankind life and breath. He made every nation from one man–Adam. Your kids will learn about the apostolic church, great facts about who our God is, and what he has done. God made us to be a part of a community–the Church!

4) God created me for his glory.

…bring my sons from afar
    and my daughters from the end of the earth,
everyone who is called by my name,
    whom I created for my glory,
    whom I formed and made.” – Isaiah 43:6b-7, ESV

Last, in section three of Bible Investigators: Creation, your kids will learn what it means to be created for God’s glory! They will learn what God’s glory is, and how we glorify God. Then, they will take a look at Ephesians 2:10, learning what it means to do the good works which God prepared for us. They’ll also learn how we can be saved–not by works, but by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Teaching kids that they were created for his glory can be a lot of fun. With puzzle-based Bible study, kids can become Bible Investigators in an exciting way that doesn’t feel like work. And you will have a great way to teach them all about Creation and how to study the Bible!
