Amazing Facts about God's Creation Your Children Need to Know

Have you ever stood at the base of a waterfall and found yourself overcome by the majesty and power of God’s Creation?

I know I have!

It’s amazing to consider that a massive waterfall is just a tiny display of God’s majesty and power, isn’t it?

Sometimes, as parents, when we hear the word creation, we think specifically of God’s Creation event–the six days of Creation followed by and the Sabbath day. In fact, the doctrine of Creation encompasses so much more than just the science or sequence of the event in which God spoke our world into being.

Let’s take a look at five amazing facts about Creation that your kids need to know.

Bible Investigators

Amazing Facts About God’s Creation

Bible Investigators: Creation is a puzzle-based Bible study for 8-12 year olds that teaches your kids all about the doctrine of Creation!

The Bible study will help your children and tweens see themself as investigators of God’s Word. As they work through the book, they will learn to use the inductive Bible study method to observe, interpret, and apply Scripture in a faithful way.

The book has six sections–let’s take a look at the amazing Creation facts your kids will explore in the first section of Bible Investigators: Creation.

1) God Created All Things Out of Nothing

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. – Genesis 1:1-2a, ESV

I looked on the earth, and behold, it was without form and void;
and to the heavens, and they had no light. – Jeremiah 4:23, ESV

Our kids need to know that God created everything out of nothing, right at the very beginning of time. In fact, he created time, too! Before God’s great Creation event, nothing existed–only God. In fact, God has always existed and no one created God.

As your children work through fun teaching, puzzles, and guided journal boxes, they will learn Genesis 1:1-2a and Jeremiah 4:23 (and Psalm 33:8-9, too). They’ll learn important theological “code words” like merism and ex nihilo, as well. After all, good Bible Investigators need to know how to use and interpret code words!

2) Every House Has a Builder

(For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) – Hebrews 3:4

Sometimes we act like we invented logic. But, our logic skills are from the Lord, and we need to use them rightly. Your children will learn to think through the logic of Hebrews 3:4, which reminds us that every house is built by someone. It doesn’t just appear out of nowhere. Likewise, every single thing in this universe also has a builder, who is God. Your kids, too, will learn about how God created the Church, and they are a part of his spiritual house.

3) God Created the World for His Creatures

For thus says the Lord,
who created the heavens
    (he is God!),
who formed the earth and made it
    (he established it;
he did not create it empty,
he formed it to be inhabited!):
“I am the Lord, and there is no other.” – Isaiah 45:18

Not only did God create an amazing world for us, he created it to be inhabited. Have your kids ever considered the fact that our Creator God specifically formed habitats for the creatures he placed in them? A penguin wouldn’t survive long in the Sahara Desert, and a giraffe would hate Antarctica. But, our good God created a wonderful place for specific creatures to live, where they would be healthy, happy, and fed.

It’s no mistake that God created an big island full of eucalyptus trees, then created koalas to be able to tolerate and enjoy the poisonous eucalyptus tree leaves. Where did God place koalas? He put them right on the giant island of Australia–with all the eucalyptus trees they love.

4) It Was All Good

And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. – Genesis 1:31a

For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving… – 1 Timothy 4:4

In the Bible, the word good, when applied to something by God, is very different than the way we apply the word. To be honest, we usually mean good enough, don’t we? But God created all things good. He approved of everything he made. Further more, we can thank God for all of the good things he gave us.

In section 6 of Bible Investigators: Creation, your kids will learn why not everything in our world seems to be good. They’ll study the Fall, and also learn about God’s great plan for salvation.

5) God’s Works are Wondrous

I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you
and praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
    and his greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall commend your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.
On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds,
and I will declare your greatness.
They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The Lord is good to all,
and his mercy is over all that he has made.

All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
and all your saints shall bless you!
They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom
    and tell of your power,
to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds,
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

[The Lord is faithful in all his words
and kind in all his works.]

– Psalm 145:1-13, ESV

The most amazing fact of all about Creation is that it points to our amazing, marvelous God. When we stand at the bottom of a waterfall and feel the power of the water’s spray, we receive the smallest inkling of our God’s power. When we see the beauty, creativity, and goodness of this earth, we understand more about God, who is infinitely more beautiful, creative, and good than we can possibly comprehend. God’s works are wondrous because God is wonderful!

There you have it–five amazing facts about God’s Creation! Teach your children more about these facts, about how to study the Bible faithfully, and about the rest of the doctrine of Creation with Bible Investigators: Creation.
