The Apostles' Creed Printable Poster Craft
Have you ever wondered how to communicate the message of the Bible to your kids in a succinct way?

Do you worry about holding to biblical truths, rather than getting swayed by the latest Christian “trends”?

These are tasks that the believers in the Early Church–the 400  or so years after the death and resurrection of Christ–also took seriously.

The Who What Why series is the perfect way to teach your kids, ages 7-12, about the history of our faith!

Apostles’ Creed Printable

In order to help new believers learn and confess important biblical truths, the Early Church put together the Apostles’ Creed.

This creed was taught in a class to new converts, and at the end of their three year discipleship, believers confessed the Apostles’ Creed at their baptism. By 700 AD, Christians everywhere were reciting the Apostles’ Creed as a part of their worship services.

The creed covers:

  • The nature of God the Father
  • The nature of God the Son
  • Jesus’ work on the Cross
  • The resurrection and ascension of Christ
  • The nature of the Holy Spirit
  • The gospel
  • God’s Church.

These are basic, vital biblical truths we want our kids to know!

Your kids can read all about the history of the Apostles’ Creed, and what it means phrase-by-phrase in my narrative history and theology book from Christian Focus Publications, Why Do We Need the Apostles’ Creed?.  The book is a fun way for your kids to learn more about their Christian faith.

This fun craft will allow your kids to construct an Apostles’ Creed poster with a little church craft mounted to it.

Eventually, the church wanted a shorter statement of faith–a summary of belief–so people could confess their belief before being baptized. The Apostles’ Creed was written for just that reason. During the first three hundred years of the church, new believers would spend three years in a special class, learning what Jesus taught and how we should live for Jesus. Then, on the night before Easter, or Resurrection Sunday, all the new Christians would gather at a river to be baptized.

1) Print your templates and labels.

The Apostles' Creed Printable Poster Craft

Print the Apostles’ Creed poster and church templates on cardstock.

2) Prepare your church structure. The Apostles' Creed Printable Poster Craft

You will need two empty toilet paper rolls to create your church structure.

The Apostles' Creed Printable Poster Craft

Cut the first roll in half vertically. Then, cut the top of each half at a slant to create structure for the slanted side roofs. Next, cut the top of the full-sized toilet paper roll at two slants, creating a slanted roof base on each side. The Apostles' Creed Printable Poster Craft

Fold each roll in half vertically, as you will create a flat side on the back of each. Then, on the back side of each roll, cut a slit vertically from the bottom to the top. You will wrap each back side together, removing around two inches of the back of each roll. You will end up with three tighter paper rolls, flattened on the back side. Glue the back of each roll together, or use narrow strips of packing tape to secure the backs. See the pictures of the white rolls to see the finished size.

Glue each short side of the church to the tall church piece, as shown. You can use packing tape to secure the back side, if you would like.

“As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight.” – Psalm 16:3, ESV

Christian History Matters for Our Kids.

History matters. Now, more than ever, we see how important it is for our children to know and understand history and the Bible.

Here’s why:

  • God is the sovereign ruler of all things. It’s important for our kids to see his hand in the history of nations and in the lives of both peasants and kings.
  • Christian history is the story of our family history. Our kids get to see how people who love Jesus follow him.
  • Understanding history can help our kids learn historic and biblical theology. They learn what the Bible says and what that means for us. They also see when the study of Scripture has taken important turns that have changed the Church.
  • Reading Christian biographies and history can be a wonderful way for kids to think outside their own time and culture. God’s Church spans centuries and includes people from every nation.
  • Christian biographies help kids consider their own faith, walk with Jesus, and the impact their witness may one day have on others–and on history.

Elementary-aged kids need middle grade resources that are fun, a little sassy, and that teach valuable lessons.
