It’s so important that our kids can explain the biblical basis for abolition. After all, the Christian fight to end slavery was a battle to return to the truths of Scripture.
The Bible Against Slavery
Abolition was a movement primarily led by Christians who searched God’s Word and concluded that all humans are made in the image of God. Not only that, God’s Word specifically outlaws the kidnapping and sale of human souls. God’s law also constrains sin–putting boundaries on sin that has already been outlawed–in order to prevent particularly heinous abuses. Abolitionists taught others what the Bible teaches about God’s intentional creation of ethnicity, and God’s commands for his followers. They looked, too, at how God defines justice and mercy.
The abolition movement was a way to live out God’s command that we love our neighbors as ourselves. It was a demand that all humans be treated as God’s special “imago Dei” creation. It was a proclamation that all humans should live free.

You’ll need a few supplies to put together your lapbook. You probably already have most of these. If not, it’s worth investing in them as you will use them again and again with your kids.

How to Print and Use Your Free Theology Lapbook
To create the base of your lapbook, place your file folder on a table and fold both sides inward toward the creased spine of the folder. Once the outer edges meet, crease your file folder. This will give you a book that opens in the middle. You will still have a fold in the middle of your book, so I like to glue a piece of cardstock into the middle section of the book to create a thick center that won’t bend.
