The story of Moses and the parting of the Red Sea is an exciting narrative in which God shows himself to his people during the Exodus. The Israelites learned that God is sovereign over nature–even the gravity of the sea. The Egyptians learned that God is sovereign over kings, armies, and nations. We see that God is sovereign over all of human history.
It’s a wonderful story for our kids to think about as they reenact it!

Moses and the Red Sea Craft
The story of Moses and the burning bush is found in the book of Exodus chapter 14. During their exodus from Egypt, God led his people to the edge of the Red Sea, where they became trapped between the sea and the approaching armies of Egypt. With nowhere else to turn, God’s people cried out to him for help.
God showed himself to be all-powerful when he used Moses to part the Red Sea, saving his people. Then, God defeated the army of Egypt when he closed the sea on top of them. It’s an amazing story your kids will want to hear again and again.
This fun craft will allow your kids to construct a number of Bible puppet crafts: Moses, Aaron, Pharaoh, a horse and chariot, two Egyptians, two camels, and two sides of the Red Sea.
Why Did the Exodus Happen?
Learn all about God’s character through a major event in the history of Israel: the Exodus. God’s people had been in slavery in Egypt for hundreds of years. But God had promised their ancestors that the people of Israel would have their own land someday. So, they cried out to God and he heard them and rescued them. He used a shepherd and his brother to lead a nation of slaves in opposition to the most powerful ruler of the world’s most powerful kingdom.

Our God wants us to know him. There is none like God in all the earth. He is holy, faithful, sovereign, our Savior, and all-powerful. God is always with us, always our caring provider, and always victorious. This is the story of the Exodus (the word means ‘to depart from’) and the people God led from Egypt. God used the Exodus event to teach his people who he is.

Moses Parts the Red Sea Craft | Instructions
Your child’s representation of Moses, Pharaoh, and the Red Sea is a great way to help them reenact what they learn as they read Why Did the Exodus Happen? from the Who What Why series!
1) Print your templates.
Cut out the templates for each figure you wish to build.
2) Assemble your puppets.
Trace the template on pieces of cardstock in the colors desired and cut out the pieces.
Be sure to keep your pieces for each template separated. Observe the photographs of the finished stick puppets in these instructions. You will want to layer your pieces together to create each stick puppet.
Glue the layers of the wheel together, and glue the base of the chariot to the bottom of the chariot. For people and animals, glue the layers together as shown in the final pictures.
Again, observe the final photographs and layer and glue the hair and headpieces to each head. Some headpieces have faint lines in the middle which show where to cut a slit and insert the head. Glue each body together. For the chariot, glue the wheel to the chariot, as shown.
For bodies with headdresses, be sure to leave room for the heads. For the horse, glue the mane and tail to the horse body.
Add the faces. Use a permanent fine-tip marker to add simple faces to the puppet heads. Your kids can add embellishments– sequins, use puffy paints, or any other decoration they’d like!
Glue each puppet to a craft stick.
Your puppets can be used in a variety of Bible stories. You can use the templates to create as many puppets as your child would like!

Christian Biographies for Kids | Christian History for Kids | Theology for Kids

Christian History Matters for Our Kids.
History matters. Now, more than ever, we see how important it is for our children to know and understand history and the Bible.
Here’s why:
- God is the sovereign ruler of all things. It’s important for our kids to see his hand in the history of nations and in the lives of both peasants and kings.
- Christian history is the story of our family history. Our kids get to see how people who love Jesus follow him.
- Understanding history can help our kids learn historic and biblical theology. They learn what the Bible says and what that means for us. They also see when the study of Scripture has taken important turns that have changed the Church.
- Reading Christian biographies and history can be a wonderful way for kids to think outside their own time and culture. God’s Church spans centuries and includes people from every nation.
- Christian biographies help kids consider their own faith, walk with Jesus, and the impact their witness may one day have on others–and on history.
