Educational Videos for Kids

A few years ago my husband and I took our kids on a 17-day field trip to 14 National Parks, 2 science museums, and a number of National Monuments. It was fabulous. The kids learned so much about a variety of subjects as they listened to rangers, watched videos, and visited the on-site museums. We had a great time hiking and seeing new types of terrain. Most of the direct learning the boys did, though, was guided in some way or another.

While we often talk about going on another learning vacation, it was a big stretch for our family. We want our kids to learn from experts in different fields, but it’s often not feasible to visit those experts in person.

Educational Videos for Kids

That’s where educational videos come in. We use educational videos for kids to help supplement our curriculum, to explore new subjects and ideas, and to kick off discussions.

Watching an educational video guided by an expert in a particular field is a lot like going on a virtual field trip. There are great things to see, wonderful stories to listen to, and valuable information to learn about. It can sometimes be a challenge to find these videos, however, especially from knowledgeable teachers. YouTube can be a minefield–in fact, I’ve block YouTube entirely for my kids at this point. There’s just too much junk available there.

I’m really excited about a new online homeschooling resource I’ve found, Streamable Learning.

The Streamable Learning videos provide an opportunity for your students to learn from knowledgeable guides from the comfort of your own home. AND (I know you’re going to LOVE this) many of the video events have printables that accompany them! Streamable Learning calls the printables “pre-materials” and “post-materials”, but you and I know them as printables. Oh, how I love coordinating printables.

Different from Online Homeschool Programs

Streamable Learning is different from online homeschool programs. It’s not a curriculum or a tutored course. Rather, Streamable Learning schedules “events”–video programs–that you can register for (there are several time slots available) and watch with your students. They record most of the events, so you can watch the backlog whenever you’d like.

Streamable Learning has more educational videos for kids available than any other live streaming educational company. I’m pretty excited about their line up for the 2017 / 2018 school year. I watched several of the recorded videos, and I printed their 138-page calendar of events that lists all of the upcoming educational videos, the dates and times, the content partners recording the videos, a detailed description of each, the grade range, and the subjects covered (like STEM, art, history, etc.).

There’s a wide gamut of videos available, but I know my teen boys are going to be excited about all of the videos available on history, natural science, economics, writing, literature, and especially the videos covering the art, story-telling, and creation of video games. I’m pretty excited about the videos covering art and career choices as well. There are lots of videos available for the younger grades, too.

Fast facts about Streamable Learning educational videos:

  • There are over 450 video events scheduled for the 2017 / 2018 school year.
  • The videos cover a wide array of subjects.
  • The videos range from 30-40 minutes in length.
  • There are coordinating printables for many of the videos!
  • Most of the videos are recorded so you can watch them later (during the same school year).

Purchase Streamable Learning
