Teaching Music to Children Made Easy with Homeschool Music Lessons

David and the chiefs of the service also set apart for the service the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who prophesied with lyres, with harps, and with cymbals. The list of those who did the work and of their duties was: Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asharelah, sons of Asaph, under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied under the direction of the king. Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with the lyre in thanksgiving and praise to the Lord.” – 1 Chronicles 25:1-3 (Emphasis mine)

Music is all through Scripture as an important way to serve the Lord, to give thanks, and to praise God.

Teaching music to our children is important. But, what if you don’t feel equipped to teach music in your homeschool?

I know I didn’t. I nearly flunked band because I can’t count and move my fingers at the same time I’m reading! I sure love Jesus, though, and it’s a joy to praise him through music.

So, if you’re unequipped to teach music to your kids, what do you do?

Teaching Music to Children

What if I told you you can teach music to your elementary-aged kids with fun, 10-minute video lessons?

This is a sponsored post.

You’d want to know where you can find this amazing resource, right? Maybe you’ll even want to see a couple of free sample lessons?

I’ve got you covered.

Christian Homeschool Music

You’re going to love Praise Hymn’s new God Made Music video school! Although Praise Hymn has been operating for nearly 50 years (wow!), their online video school is new–and perfect for elementary-aged kids.

They gave me permission to share a couple of their videos so you could get a feel for their lessons.

Each of the 34 lessons in the first year of God Made Music is about ten to thirteen minutes long, with extra music at the end so your kids can listen to the music they’re studying that week while coloring, playing, or eating lunch!

This Christmas video is one your kids will really enjoy!

See what I mean? These lessons are fun, informative, and take almost no preparation–and absolutely no special knowledge–from you!

That’s a relief for those of us who aren’t musicians prepared for teaching music to our kids!

In the God Made Music 1 homeschool music lessons, your kids will cover concepts like:

  • The importance of music
  • The feeling and beat of music
  • Types of instruments
  • Types of notes
  • Recognizing instruments
  • Staff, treble, and bass clefs
  • Rests in music
  • Timing in music
  • Musical signatures

Your kids will also experience music from important composers, including:

  • Franz Josef Haydn
  • Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov
  • Edvard Grieg
  • Richard Strauss
  • Georges Bizet
  • Ludwig van Beethoven
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

And that’s just the first year!
