Focus on the Family Magazines for Kids Your Family Will Adore
When our children were growing up, we wanted to inspire in them a love of reading and a strong desire to learn. We also wanted to give them materials that pointed to the good news of Jesus Christ. So, we looked for resources that were fun, and that had a high view of Scripture.

That’s what you want for your family, too, right? (I thought so!)

When my youngest two boys were growing up, I was thrilled to discover that Focus on the Family has a suite of magazines for young readers. I promptly subscribed to both Clubhouse Jr. and Clubhouse magazine from the time our boys were three and four years old. We saved every issue in magazine boxes. We still have years of well-loved magazines on our bookshelves.

In fact, I loved the magazines so much that I even wrote articles for them for years!

Psst! There’s a great big giveaway at the bottom of this post!

Focus on the Family Magazines for Kids

Running to the mailbox became an exciting adventure each day as my kids checked for the next issue. When their treasured magazines did arrive, they poured over them, reading articles and stories, taking quizzes and completing puzzles, reading comics and memorizing jokes. The next day, they would read through the magazines again, laughing hysterically at the adventures within.

My boys loved the magazines because they were all theirs. Each issue was clearly written and illustrated with kids their age in mind. Every full-color page was packed with fun, excitement, and learning.

I loved Focus on the Family’s magazines because they pointed to Scripture, to living biblically, and–even–to God as the Creator of weird and amazing creatures.

They even have a magazine designed just for teen girls!

As a Thinking Kids reader, I know your family also cares about adding quality Christian reading materials to your home. Take a look at Focus on the Family’s Clubhouse Jr., Clubhouse, and Brio magazines.

I know you’ll love them as much as I do!

Focus on the Family Clubhouse Jr. Magazine | 3-7 Year Olds

Do you have 3-7 year olds? Your family will love this award-winning children’s magazine with a nearly 40-year track record!

Focus on the Family Magazines for Kids Your Family Will Adore

Just look at those beautiful pages. Your children will be thrilled to find 32-pages of colorful, creative content in their mailbox every month.

Focus on the Family’s Clubhouse Jr. magazine is created for new and developing readers. In addition to Bible stories, fiction and nature stories, and recipes and crafts, your children will love the entertaining puzzles that build reading and critical thinking skills. The magazine content is designed to reinforce a biblical world view and values, to encourage family time, and to build biblical literacy.

Each issue contains jokes and drawings submitted by readers, as well. My kids loved seeing the contributions of other kids. Each month has a writing challenge, and a drawing challenge. Kids can submit their stories for the following month. Because we homeschooled, our boys worked on their own contributions and when they appeared in the magazine, we made a big deal about the boys’ first real-life publication. They loved it!

Each month, kids will find an exciting center spread, with fun Bible verse posters, coloring pages, or games.

During the summer, there are challenges that encourage reading, fitness, and evangelism. There’s even a yearly sticker issue that helps kids be even more interactive as they read their magazine.

When our magazine did finally arrive in the mailbox, my boys would grab it, run to the living room, and lay on the floor to examine every page. One of my boys flipped right to the Bible story and Creation science articles in each issue, while my other son immediately looked for the fun snacks to make, the puzzles, and the contributions submitted by other children. Each month they loved ripping out the center spread and taping it to the wall of the dining room.

Clubhouse Jr. is a wonderful magazine for 3-7 year olds. Our kids loved it–I know yours will, too.

Focus on the Family Clubhouse Magazine | 8-12 Year Olds

Your 8-12 year olds will love receiving 32-pages of colorful, creative content sent to your child’s mailbox each month!

Focus on the Family’s Clubhouse magazine is another award-winning children’s magazine with a nearly 40-year track record.

Clubhouse is a wonderful tool to help your kids build a Christian worldview through monthly “Truth Pursuer” stories that cover devotions, apologetics, biblical archeology, or Christian living. My boys loved these non-fiction articles that pointed to important Scriptural truths. They are always packed with wonderful photographs and fascinating information.

Your tween will also love reading exclusive “Adventures in Odyssey” content, the hilarious “Adventures of Average Boy,” written by comedian Bob Smiley, fun fiction stories, and the worldview cartoon “Captain Absolutely.” Our boys read and re-read these features, usually together, laughing in wonderful boy-ish guffaws. Clubhouse magazine is the official magazine of the marvelous Focus on the Family radio drama, so there is a lot of exclusive Odyssey content packed into the pages. Honestly, the visual and textual content is all the more exciting when kids already love the audio adventures.

Clubhouse also features fun fiction stories written with a Christian worldview.

There are articles about ordinary kids doing extraordinary things for God, too. These features are so inspiring for kids as they seek to love Jesus and love their neighbors!

My boys loved the pull-out posters with puzzle spreads, game boards, and amazing photographs. One recent edition of the magazine even had 18 double-sided tear-out cards. Each card highlighted one of the “Adventures of Average Boy” characters, with the character’s name and picture on one side, and a fun little bio on the other. Honestly, my boys were obsessed with Average Boy, so I am a little sad these appeared now–when they are all grown up. They would have loved them.

My youngest son loved the crafts and recipes in each issue that aim to build creativity and confidence in the kitchen. We made a lot of food art, thanks to Focus on the Family! Our older son enjoyed the puzzles and the quizzes that build self-awareness and character. Each summer, the magazine has challenges that encourage kids to read, get fit, and evangelize.

Both my boys relished seeing the reader-submitted jokes, stores and artwork. In fact, once each year, Clubhouse has a Members’ Mag. Readers write and illustrate the entire issue. My boys each wrote a short “Adventures of Average Boy” story–and they were both published. I still have their stories framed on my office wall. It was an exciting moment for them, and for me–as a ridiculously proud mom.

Our family absolutely loved Focus on the Family’s Clubhouse magazine. I’m certain yours will, too!

Focus on the Family Brio Magazine | Teen Girls

Focus on the Family’s Brio is the perfect, award-winning publication for your teen girl!

Six times each year (every other month), your daughter will love opening the mailbox to find a beautifully designed, 64-page magazine, written just for her.

Teen girls are so susceptible to the pull of the world, aren’t they? Brio is a wonderful way to help your teen feel special, valuable, and purposeful while equipping them to live in our culture. I wish I had known about Brio when our daughter was a teen. It would have been such a wonderful addition to her reading. I’m glad to be able to share this fabulous magazine with you so your teens don’t miss out!

In every issue, your daughter will encounter faith-building features about important subjects, like: how to search for God’s will, the lies of progressive Christianity, how Jesus transforms, or how to read the Bible. Each article is written to help girls make their beliefs their own. The magazine addresses more real-life topics like body image, identity, and maintaining a healthy, biblical self image. There are also health, beauty, and fashion tips from doctors, personal trainers and other experts. Quizzes help encourage self-discovery and personal growth. There is even a section from Focus on the Family’s Plugged In to help your daughter grow in media discernment.

Each issue contains Scripturally sound insights to encourage your daughter to maintain healthy relationships with parents, siblings, friends, and even boys. One recent issue had an article about how to have a conversation with a boy without being awkward. (That would have made youth group meetings much easier for me when I was a teen!) Being a teen girl is hard–Brio can help.

Brio also showcases profiles of teen girls and godly women your girls can look up to who are busy living for Jesus and making a difference in the world. Your teens will read about athletes, musicians, actors, businesswomen, and more. One of the recent profiles covered the life and work of Alisa Childers, former member of the pop band ZOEgirl, and the author of books that include The Deconstruction of Christianity: What it is, why it’s destructive and how to respond.

Both short stories and graphic novel-style comics will encourage your daughter to live her faith. There is even a humorous fictional “Becoming Elsa” column that addresses navigating school and family life with vulnerability and grace.

Your daughter will love exploring the creative corner where other readers share their writing and art. She may even want to submit her own. Brio magazine also includes fun extra features, such as crafts, recipes, puzzles, journaling ideas and Bible verse posters—perfect for your daughter to hang in her bedroom!

My favorite feature in each magazine is a short Bible study that will have your daughter looking up several verses each week and writing down what they say about a particular topic, like friendship or authority.

If you are looking for a way to encourage your daughter to apply her faith to her daily life, Brio is a great tool for your family. You don’t have to take my word for it, though. You can check out samples of Brio right here.
