I’d like to thank Christian Focus 4 Kids for sending me four Bible Heroes Colouring Books in return for my honest review, and also for providing a set to give away!
Friends, do you remember the set of Colour Through the Psalms coloring books I reviewed in September? Well, Christian Focus 4 Kids has another great new set of coloring books out for kids ages 4-8, each focusing on different Bible characters from the Old Testament. Just like last month, they’re allowing me to give a set away to one blessed reader.
Bible Heroes Colouring Books (Christian Focus Publications, 2014) by Carine Mackenzie are 16 page books, measuring 6″ x 8 1/2″. Each book contains focuses on a particular Bible person: Adam, Sarah, Moses, or David. Every page has line picture to color, drawn by illustrator Fred Apps with bubble lettering (you know how important bubble lettering is for an excited coloring kiddo!) summarizing the story of each person.
My favorite aspect of each coloring book is the way Carine Mackenzie ties the Gospel into the story of the individual featured. For example, here’s the gospel message from the last page of the Moses coloring book: “God kept his promise. He always does. He promises eternal life to those who trust his Son, Jesus, to save them from their sin.” Or from the book on Adam: “Sin came through Adam, but forgiveness and eternal life would come through God’s Son, Jesus Christ.” I love that!
These four new coloring books actually add to an existing Christian Focus series. You can also purchase coloring books on: Gideon, Esther, Daniel, Noah, Joseph, Elijah, Ruth, Paul, Peter, and Mary.

I’d recommend using colored pencils with the books (we like the big set of 100 colors: RoseArt Colored Pencils, Assorted Colors, 100-Count, Packaging May Vary (1055WA-4)) as the drawings are detailed enough for an eight-year-old. Colored pencils will allow kids to get the result they desire as the tips are finer than crayons.
We’ve been using coloring books aimed at older children like these for a number of years during our read aloud times. It’s an effective way to allow children to satisfy their need to move while still allowing them to listen. Also, I’m of the opinion that fine-motor muscle memory increases long-term memory. I haven’t looked at any studies on it, but I know my kids retain more information when they’re doing something like coloring while listening. These books would lend themselves especially well to a family worship environment.
Bible Heroes Colouring Books are another godly resource from Christian Focus. I’m so encouraged by their devotion to teaching children about Scripture. I’d absolutely recommend these little coloring books. The cost is so low that I’d suggest getting an entire set for each child. After all, there are only 16 pages per book, so your children will want to be able to move onto the next book after they’ve finished the one they’re working on. I’ve included links for the Christian Focus Colour the Psalms series as well.

I’m always looking for engaging ways to teach the Bible to my kids! They aren’t ones to hold still very long, so adding in activities helps keep their attention and provides visual learning opportunities!
The coloring books have enough detail to satisfy an 8 year old – but the most important aspect for our family about them is how the gospel is presented along with the story. Great coloring books!
My boys enjoy coloring and it keeps them occupied as I read to them. Manages to keep them still for longer and actually more focused.
Our children’s church kids would love these pictures to go along with the Bible lessons. I love the fact that they include Scripture and aren’t cartoon style art.
Such a fun way to cover Bible lessons, would be a great addition to our homeschool! I have named all of my children from the Bible so it would be neat to have each of them color their own hero book with their name on it :).
These coloring books would be a great addition to our Bible study. Great visual pictures for young
ones to understand the Bible stories better. Great coloring books for kids.
My girls would love these pictures and my oldest would love reading them to my younger children.
My twin girls would love these, too. They are three, but we could start using them soon.
What books do you recommend for toddlers (three-year-olds in my case)?
Thank you.
My little one loves to color “big kids pictures.” I think she would adore these!
You can have (and we do!) loads of coloring books, but it’s harder to find quality coloring books with a Biblical aspect.
Congratulations to our winner, Marguerite H!
