We’ve nearly reached our summer schedule, and I’m looking forward to more relaxed days with the boys. Reading is something our kids do a lot of over the summer months. They enjoy a little more freedom in their book choices and reading daily keeps their skills sharpened.
In celebration of the coming summer months, I made your kids (and you!) five cheerful Fruit of the Spirit bookmarks. I’ve been thinking a lot about how God sanctifies us and changes us, and these verses are just precious to me.

Martin Luther and the Reformation
Teach your teens about Martin Luther and the Reformation in an exciting, new way with When Lightning Struck!: The Story of Martin Luther!
As Luther’s understanding of the spiritual corruption within the Church grew, and he despaired of true salvation, Luther (now a scholar and priest) sought the Bible for answers. Following his discovery of the true gospel in Scripture, Luther began to preach spiritual freedom to his congregation, and to teach biblical (rather than philosophical) theology at the University of Wittenberg.
It was on October 31, 1517 that Martin Luther penned his Ninety-Five Theses in Latin in response to the abusive indulgence sales practices of the monk Johann Tetzel in a nearby town. Luther nailed the Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church, the scholarly bulletin board of his day, and mailed a copy to the Archbishop of Mainz. Luther hoped to start a scholarly debate about the practice of selling salvation through plenary indulgences. The response he received was greater–and more dangerous–than he imagined it would be.
Luther’s story is exciting. There are death defying moments, epic spiritual battles, narrow escapes, a kidnapping, revolution, and war. As the “Father of the Reformation”, Luther is a vital figure in Church history. His sacrifice and willingness to wage battle against the spiritual, religious, and political powers of his medieval world allowed Christians throughout time to embrace the truth of salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone as explained by Scripture alone once again. May all glory be to God alone!

ChristynEds says
There are several bundles that I’m eyeing — including the Fine Arts bundle and the Charlotte Mason bundle. We are huge readers around here; for summer reading, we participate in a couple of different library and bookstore-sponsored programs, we take turns with our evening read-aloud, and my daughter reads “under the covers” for 30 minutes before she sleeps.
PSchrock says
We handle summer reading by enrolling in our libraries summer reading program. I also require reading everyday. At first it was a struggle for my oldest (10) but now she looks forward to the time she gets to read. She is often reading two or three books at the same time. My youngest (7) enjoys her books, but often has to be encouraged to read them. It works better for her if I sit and let her read to me.
PSchrock says
All of the bundles have interesting content, however, I guess I would be most interested in the notebooking bundle.
hayeanmal says
We do reading every day, and we go to the library at least once a week to replenish our book supply. I like the brother and sister bundle and the notebooking, copywork, and lapbooks bundles.

Sara says
We’re hoping to continue listening to an audio version of the Chronicles of Narnia while the youngest two give us quiet moments. We also have a few read-alouds we’ll be using for bedtime reading. Bedtime is our favorite time for reading together.
Lynette says
For summer reading, we join as many reading programs as we can…through Half Price Books, Barnes &Noble, Chuck E Cheese, and our local library. Then, we visit the library at least once a week to stock up on new stuff that peaks our curiosity.

I, too, had no idea Playmobil offered an assortment of real characters. What a neat way to explore Martin Luther! As for the bundle sale, I am overwhelmed with how much there is. This is the first year I’ve even heard of this, so now I am regretting all the boxed curriculum I bought and wishing i had known about this earlier!! If it weren’t for the curriculum I had already purchased, I would probably take nearly every bundle. If I had to choose for the Pick 5 $25 bundle, I already have the ones my kids want most ready and waiting! Thank you for these great bookmarks and these great giveaways! I am so thankful I found your website!!! May the Lord bless you abundantly for helping share His Word with others.

I don’t think we handle it any differently at this point. Our kids all love to read, so they just read on their own whatever they want without need for prompting from us. We also do many many read aloud together as a family and really enjoy that time together.
I am looking forward to purchasing your book later this year to read for the anniversary. We read one on Saint Patrick for March 17th and were very blessed. It is one of my 4 year olds favorites.

mh says
We have used ‘bingo’ cards, lists, and other printables. We have kept track of time, pages, books, genres – time has been the easiest. We have done prizes for the younger ones; usually book related. The older ones like book money for books on their wishlist. I keep a box of new books and they are allowed to pick one after one has been read. There are a few ‘required’ reading marked with a sticker – the rest are classic stories – or stories related to our next year’s history. This system works great – we get in a whole semester’s worth of reading within a very short time 🙂
Christy Foss says
I’m planning to use this book and your study guide with my 11 and 8 year olds for school next year! This would be a great win!

We started the coolest reading activity 2 months ago – Facetime reading with Dea and Depa (Grandma and Grandpa). My parents live multiple states away. In an attempt to help grow the relationship between my parents and my daughter (and to give me some time to get some things done) they offered to Facetime and listen to her as she learns to read. What a blessing! She has a plethora of books to read that may require assistance with just a few words, but otherwise she is working on fluency. They learn and laugh together and she gets WAY more reading time in per week with them than with just me. This is now a staple in our homeschool for all seasons!
Lisa says
We sign up for summer reading and the prizes they earn is more than enough motivation for my kids (even the non-readers)!
doug gerard says

Laura says
We homeschool year round, so we don’t really have “summer reading”–my readers are voracious and devour good books throughout the year.
Thanks so much for the thoughtful giveaway!
Whitney says
My oldest is hardly seen without a book in hand, and my youngest is just beginning to sound out words, so we have a hearty mix of read-alouds and independent interest-driven reads during the summer. This year my daughter set a goal to work through the Mensa kids’ reading list, so she’ll be plenty busy. Thanks for the giveaway!
amadamson says
I really love the fruit of the Spirit bookmarks. My daughter is studying those right now. We’ll be printing some and passing them out at church. As for reading…it’s kid’s choice right now – at least 30 minutes a day. This summer we’ll be doing some read aloud time together.
Shari McLaws says

We do the library summer reading program so far but we are about to start Tapestry of Grace so I think they have some suggestions for summer reading too. One of my friends suggested learning about a different country every month so we may do that.
Cindy Magee says
We just made our summer reading goal chart today. 🙂 1 sticker = 30 min of reading. 1 toy from the dollar tree each week for 5 stickers if they get 10 stickers in a week they can pick out 3 toys. 1 sticker = 30 minutes of electronics time whether kindle or TV.(Saturdays and Sundays are free days)
Then at 3 weeks(15 stickers) they get to pick out a toy for $20 or less. At week 7 (35 stickers) they get a trip to Gator and Friends. That’s what they picked for their adventure. 🙂
Lacy v V says
Reading is a really big thing in our house. The tough part is getting the kids to stop! If I can’t find one of the kids for chores, they are most likely reading something!

For summer reading, we participate in our libraries reading program.
Kristi Allen says
We handle summer reading well. We are usually signed up for at least four reading programs during the summer. I have a set time in the afternoon where we settle down, set our 30 minute timers, and go for it. If anyone wants to read past the timer they may do so.

We read hours a day all year around…so it’s more a matter of trying to pay attention to how long we are reading so I can record it on the library summer reading record

We keep lots of books and visit the library.
Sally Gearhart says
My kids are big readers, as long as I keep them with new books they will have a book in their hands.

Summer Reading… happens like reading during the rest of the year, with the added benefit of “rewards” from the library and Barnes and Noble, etc…
