I was like Mary Poppins. As long as Mary Poppins was sleep-deprived, quick tempered, and angry.
One of the most-read articles here at Thinking Kids has long been The Ghost of Childhood Past ~ Anatomy of an Angry Parent. Parenting in anger is a common circumstance, one you may relate to. Call that anger a “sin”, and you’ve got a recipe for real controversy.
Friend, I’m sure there are parents out there who aren’t stressed-out, overwhelmed, and angry. That is fabulous! As for me, my sinful parental anger breaks my heart and leads me to repentance more often than any other sin in my life. My circle of friends has been praying for me to be patient, kind, and loving for years. I’m relieved to tell you that God is faithful to sanctify. I’m not the same mama I was 15 years ago. Then again, I’m no longer potty training.
So, I want to ask you. Are you an angry parent? Are you stressed out? Overwhelmed? I’d like to invite you to join us for a book club over on Facebook (though I welcome your comments here as well!). We’re going to be studying Israel and Brook Wayne’s new book Pitchin’ A Fit!: Overcoming Angry and Stressed-Out Parenting.
The book is great, and I’ll have a review for you in a couple weeks, but I wanted to make sure we got this on your schedule right away.
