The Story of Lottie Moon for Your Children Ages 3-7

Looking for a way to tell the missionary story of Lottie Moon to your kids? You’ll want this biography for ages 3-7 on the Lottie Moon story for children.

The Story of Lottie Moon for Your Kids
Some of the very first Christian books I read to my boys were from the Little Lights biography series by Catherine Mackenzie.

If I’m going to be totally, drop-dead honest, they were some of the first Christian biographies I ever read.

Granted, there was that Christian History course I took in college, but I remember mostly reading Confessions by Augustine. I was pretty much lost most of the course. I didn’t want that for my kids.

I wanted them to know the history of the Christian faith.

Come to find out, God has used his people in some pretty fascinating ways.

Now, I write about Church history. Coincidence? I’ll leave that to you to decide. I have to say, there’s a special spot in my heart for the Little Lights biographies.

I want to thank Christian Focus Publications for providing me with a copy of What do you need?: Lottie Moon in return for my honest opinion.

The Story of Lottie Moon for Your Kids

What do you need?: Lottie Moon is #13 in the Little Lights series, which is written for ages 3-7. Missionary Lottie Moon is profiled for children in a way they’ll find engaging and relatable.

If I still had little ones in this age range, I would absolutely collect each new book as it came out! Instead, I love giving these as gifts.

I really appreciate that the stories are told simply and engagingly, beginning in the childhood of each Christian hero, and moving through their life.

Each spread is unique in that the left-hand side of the page is for the parent to read to the child (0r for young readers to practice their skills), and the right-hand side of the page there is a simple sentence for the very earliest readers to read.

The Story of Lottie Moon for Your Kids

Who Was Lottie Moon?

Lottie Moon was a rebellious, wealthy American child. She was saved at a revival meeting she attended so she could better mock her Christian classmates.

Lottie Moon felt called to missions and moved to China, dressing like the local population. She challenged American churches to give to missions, especially at Christmas-time, a tradition that continues today.

Lottie courageously endured persecution (like the deadly Boxer Rebellion), and warfare.

She was a true Christian hero.

“As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight.” – Psalm 16:3, ESV

Christian History Matters for Our Kids.

History matters. Now, more than ever, we see how important it is for our children to know and understand history and the Bible.

Here’s why:

  • God is the sovereign ruler of all things. It’s important for our kids to see his hand in the history of nations and in the lives of both peasants and kings.
  • Christian history is the story of our family history. Our kids get to see how people who love Jesus follow him.
  • Understanding history can help our kids learn historic and biblical theology. They learn what the Bible says and what that means for us. They also see when the study of Scripture has taken important turns that have changed the Church.
  • Reading Christian biographies and history can be a wonderful way for kids to think outside their own time and culture. God’s Church spans centuries and includes people from every nation.
  • Christian biographies help kids consider their own faith, walk with Jesus, and the impact their witness may one day have on others–and on history.

Elementary-aged kids need middle grade resources that are fun, a little sassy, and that teach valuable lessons.
